Staats Expresses Concerns About Asbestos at East Rockhill Quarry
December 12, 2018
HARRISBURG – Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) today raised concerns with the Wolf Administration after asbestos was discovered in the rocks of East Rockhill Quarry in East Rockhill, Bucks County.
In letters to Gov. Tom Wolf and Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Patrick McDonnell, Staats expressed alarm at the potential public health impact of the mining and rock crushing operation in the quarry and the likely release of the fibrous asbestos into the air.
“While I am grateful that swift action was taken by DEP to shut down operations at the quarry, I am asking you to please do everything necessary to ensure that work will not resume there until these health concerns have been fully addressed,” Staats wrote.
East Rockhill Quarry is located in close proximity to several schools, posing a potential health risk to the students and other area residents.
